A Parent’s Guide to Modern Teen Dating

A Parent’s Guide to Modern Teen Dating

On Wednesday, March 9th, New Canaan CARES, and NCHS PFA presented “A Parent’s Guide to Modern Teen Dating” with Emma Kate Freatman, LPC with Silver Hill Hospital.

This program was an open and honest conversation about modern teen dating. Emma Kate Freatman taught parents what teens wished their parents knew, what misconceptions teens think their parents have, and what questions teens wanted their parents to ask them about their dating lives. Parents left this PFA presentation with tips on how to start the conversation about dating with their teens, and how to keep the conversation going.

A full recording of this program is available on the NCHS PFA YouTube page. The slide deck Emma Kate Freatman used as a visual aid can be downloaded here.

For upcoming programs, check out the NCHS PFA website and the New Canaan CARES calendar.

2022 Anti-Vaping Campaign

The New Canaan Coalition is pleased to announce the 2022 substance use and misuse campaign focused on vaping.  Last year the anti-vaping campaign was highly successful in utilizing a peer-to-peer model. In keeping with this model, educational materials were designed by New Canaan teens to inform our community about the dangers of vaping. This year, our community partners Chef Prasad, Club Sandwich, CT Sandwich, New Canaan Chicken, Press Burger, Rosie, Tony’s, and Zumbachs will feature stickers in the upcoming weeks designed by New Canaan teens on to-go bags and coffee cups.
This year, the Coalition expands its outreach to teens and families through posters in the playhouse window, social media platforms, and snail-mail.  Be on the lookout for PSAs and postcards developed by New Canaan CARES Leadership students and New Canaan High School students.
For more resources on the dangers of vaping, click here. Also, be sure to check out CARES Education & Program Coordinator Stacey Walker’s Q&A with the New Canaanite.
New Canaan CARES holds the grant and coordinates the Local Prevention Council (LPC). In CT, each municipality has an LPC composed of stakeholders from twelve sectors whose goal is to increase public awareness of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention with a primary focus on youth.
