What is New Canaan CARES and what is its primary focus?

New Canaan CARES is an independent, non-profit organization created to advance the health and well-being of youth, families, and the community by providing responsive educational programs free of charge.

What does CARES stand for?

The acronym stands for “Community, Awareness, Responsibility, Education, Services.”

How does New Canaan CARES meet the needs of children, families, and the community at large in New Canaan?

CARES not only provides leadership programs for elementary through high school (youth), parent education, and responsive programming based on the current trends and needs (family), but we also bridge the generational gap between senior citizens and our youth through programs such as Elder Buddies (community).

Do I need to pre-register to attend CARES programs?

It is very helpful when people register for programs so we know how many people to expect and quantities of materials to bring along.

What happens if I miss a program? Can I still access the information?

IYes! Starting in the spring of 2020, all of our meetings will be held via a web based video platform and in person when possible. Recordings will be accessible through our website, under RESOURCES.

What is the organizational structure of New Canaan CARES?

We have a voluntary Board of Directors, Executive Director, part-time administrative office staff and several professional consultants specializing in social media, preschool and elementary education, social work and mentoring.

Where can I find additional resources on the topics presented in your parent programs?

Please see our RESOURCES page. We have a vast collection of curated articles, websites, and all handouts from our past programs. Additionally, we have a large lending library of books at our physical location: 91 Elm Street (upstairs from Earth Garden / we share space with the Chamber of Commerce).

How is New Canaan CARES funded?

We receive funding from individual donors, corporate sponsors, local granting agencies, as well as, community building/fundraising events. Our largest and most notable fundraiser is our annual Home Tour held each May.

What are the different ways I can donate to New Canaan CARES?

You may donate by check – our mailing address is: New Canaan Cares P.O. Box 178, New Canaan, CT 06840. You may donate on our website via credit card or PayPal by clicking HERE. Additionally, you may contact our office at (203) 966-7862 if you’d like to donate via wire transfer or ACH (automated clearing house).

Is my contribution tax deductible?

Yes, New Canaan Cares is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and 100% of your contribution is tax deductible.

When I make a donation to CARES, how is my donation used?

We use donations to support parent programs, our youth leadership programs, and a number of programs that benefit our youth, families, and the community.

Who are some of the local organizations that NC CARES partners with in the community?

We partner with many local health, wellness and human service(s) individuals and organizations within the community to educate. Some of our partners are : The Chamber of Commerce, Grace Farms, Health and Human Services, League of Women Voters, LiveGirl, New Canaan Community Foundation, New Canaan Coalition for Youth & Families, New Canaan Parent Support Group, New Canaan Public Schools, New Canaan YMCA, RAM Council, Silver Hill Hospital, The New Canaan Public Library, Town of New Canaan, and Youth Services.
